Theft and drug charges were among the issues that brought several people to Lawrence County Common Pleas Court last week.

Devon Harmon, 29, of 615 Monroe St., Ironton, pleaded guilty on a bill of information to one count of attempt to commit burglary.

“My client by all accounts comes from a good family and is generally a pretty good person,” Harmon’s attorney, Chris Delawder said. “He does have some issues, some of them involve substance abuse. But he wants to get his life straightened out and he seems anxious to have the opportunity to go to Franklin County and participate in this program.”

Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced Harmon to four years community controlled sanctions under intensive supervised probation. He must also successfully complete a rehabilitation program at a community based correctional facility in Franklin County and serve 90 days in the Lawrence County Jail.

In other matters, Gordon King, 20, of 417 S. Eighth St., Ironton, was arraigned on a charge of violating the terms of his probation. Assistant Lawrence County Prosecutor Brigham Anderson said King was recently charged with failure to comply with the order and signal of a police officer, criminal damaging, theft, breaking his probation curfew and testing positive for cocaine and marijuana use. King denied the accusations. He will return to court next week for a probation violation hearing. He was on probation after an earlier conviction on theft and breaking and entering charges.

Also Wednesday, John C. McHaffie II, 50, of Huntington, W.Va., was arraigned on one count each of having a weapon under a disability ad illegal cultivation of marijuana. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Tyler Smith.

Bowling allowed a $30,000 bond set in Lawrence County Municipal Court to continue and scheduled a pretrial conference for Oct. 17.

In another case, Brandi Traylor, 24, of 621 S. Eighth St., Ironton, was arraigned on one count each of possession of drugs, aggravated trafficking in drugs, endangering children and possession of criminal tools. She pleaded not guilty through her attorney, Warren Morford.

Bowling ordered a bond posted in Ironton Municipal Court to continue.

Zachary Miller, 18, of Huntington, W.Va., was arraigned on one count each of grand theft of a firearm and breaking and entering. He is one of several people accused of breaking into the J&J gun store in Burlington earlier this year.

Miller pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Mike Gleichauf. Bowling ordered bond set previously in Lawrence County Municipal Court to continue and ordered Miller to return to court Oct. 24 for a pretrial conference.

In another matter, Kathy Christian, 48, of Township Road 84W, Willow Wood, was arraigned on eight counts of violation of certification under Ohio motor vehicle law. David Christian, 31, of the same address, was arraigned on four counts of the same felony. They each pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on $25,000 own recognizance (OR) bonds and ordered to return to court Oct. 24 for pretrial conferences.
