CHESAPEAKE — When you close a door, you often open a window.

Busting through that window Friday night was Rock Hill fullback Shane Bostic as the Redmen outscored the Chesapeake Panthers 38-26 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Leading rusher Wes Pierson had 97 yards on 15 carries, but Bostic ran 18 times for a career-high 164 yards as Rock Hill became the only unbeaten team in OVC play.

“They lined up to take the sweep away and take Wes away, so we changed our attack. We were able to adjust and the kids made plays,” said Knipp.

Rock Hill is now 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the OVC with home games against chief contenders Coal Grove and South Point to finish the season.

“It’s a big win because now we control our own destiny. We don’t have to rely on anyone else for help,” said Knipp.

Chesapeake (2-5, 0-3) racked up 364 total yards but lost three costly fumbles, two leading to Rock Hill touchdowns.

“I was proud of the way we played. We had a good game, just bad results,” said Panthers coach Phil Davis. “We just didn’t secure the football.”

The lack of security started right away as Chesapeake fumbled on its opening drive for the fifth straight game and Rock Hill recovered at the 40-yard line.

Pierson scored a few plays later and Mitchell Davenport’s conversion kick made it 7-0.

The Panthers came back with a scoring drive as Alex Wells scored on a 2-yard run. The conversion run failed and it was 7-6.

The Redmen took a 10-6lead on a 21-yard field goal by Davenport, but Chesapeake took its only lead on a 2-yard run by Drew Blake with 4:30 left in the half.

The Panthers had a chance to pad the lead but a scoring threat failed as time ran out with Chesapeake on the Rock Hill 5-yard line.

It didn’t take Rock Hill long to establish its offense in the second half.

Bostic ran 44 yards on the first play and Pierson scored from 22 yards out on the next play and it was 17-12 at the 11:18 mark.

“(Bostic) hurt us,” said Davis.

Chesapeake marched to the Redmen 30 only to fumble the ball away again. The Redmen then marched the other direction with Drew Kuehne scoring on a 1-yard run and it was 24-12.

“They changed a couple of things up and gave us some fits in the first half. We were able to make some adjustments and the kids came out the second half and executed, slowed them down and got our offense going,” Knipp said.

Pierson extended the lead to 31-12 on an 11-yard run by Pierson. Chesapeake answered with a 36-yard scoring pass from Aaron Donahoe to Clinton Baise to make it 31-18.

Kuehne ran 5 yards for an insurance score with 3:19 to play and Chesapeake completed the scoring on a 4-yard run by Donahoe with just 28 seconds to play.

Donahoe ran 15 times for 73 yards and was 10-of-23 passing for 117 yards. Blake added 65 yards on six tries.

Kuehne was 6-of-8 passing for 104 yards and Seth Kuehne caught three passes for 60 yards.
