It is time to get ready for ghosts and goblins and other spooky things to wander the streets asking for treats.

Trick or Treat is scheduled for Oct. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. in Ironton, Coal Grove, Hanging Rock, South Point, Chesapeake, Proctorville, Athalia and all unincorporated areas of the county. While Ashland City Council will vote on Thursday when it is having its festivities, it is expected to be at the same day and time.

Russell will have it the same night from 6-8 p.m.

One day earlier, The Ironton Business Association will have Safe Trick or Treat on Oct. 29 in downtown Ironton where city merchants and groups hand out candy to kids. It will run from 5:30-7 p.m.

After the kids have gathered up their treats, they can line up for the annual Halloween parade at 7 p.m. at the fountain on Park Avenue.

Each child will receive a number so their costumes can be judged. It is sponsored by the Ironton Lions Club and the Ironton Rotary Club.

Lou Pyles, of the Lions Club, said the event used to get around 100 kids, but it has grown and she expects around 350 kids to be in the parade.

“We had around 400 last year,” she said. “But it was a really nice night last year. It was a nice time for the kids.”

She hopes again for nice weather.

“If it rains, we won’t have anyone,” she said. “Although the rain makes it more eerie.”
