Man jailed after chase wih police

GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — A Franklin Furnace man is in jail in Greenup, Ky., today following a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

Ted J. Abdon, 21, was arrested just after 1 a.m. Sunday and charged with receiving stolen property, evading police, wanton endangerment, wanton endangerment of a police officer and multiple traffic offenses.

According to a prepared statement from Greenup County Sheriff Keith M. Cooper, Abdon may face other charges.

Tom Robinson and Bob Stewart were attempting to stop a 2007 Ford Mustang on the Industrial Parkway but the driver refused to comply with a signal to stop. The vehicle had been reported stolen from South Point Ford.

The pursuit lasted 30 minutes and covered more than 50 miles, often at speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour. Authorities said during the pursuit Abdon allegedly tried to ram or wreck police vehicles from a number of agencies. The chase ended when Abdon allegedly struck a fence and overturned on Kentucky Route 2070.

Abdon was taken to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky., for treatment of minor injuries. Robinson also sustained a minor injury during the incident. The matter remains under investigation.
