ST. CLAIRSVILLE — So that’s what a New York minute is like.

With the aid of two Rock Hill fumbles, the St. Clairsville Red Devils were able to score three touchdowns in less than a minute en route to a 28-0 halftime lead and they went on to beat the Redmen 49-13 Saturday in the Region 15 Division IV quarterfinals.

St. Clairsville (11-0) scored its first touchdown in fast fashion as well.

The Red Devils got a punt at their own 32-yard line and, after a 5-yard penalty on the Redmen, Dustin Hynes ran 14 yards and then caught a 49-yard scoring pass on the next play from Anthony Vincent for a 6-0 lead.

Another drive late in the first quarter stalled at the Rock Hill 3-yard line, but the Redmen were unable to move the ball and a 19-yard punt gave the ball back to the Red Devils at the 30.

Kurtis Cullen carried two straight plays including 18 yards for the touchdown and it was 13-0.

Rock Hill fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Bo Kemo recovered at the Rock Hill 20.

After another Rock Hill penalty, Vincent kept and ran 15 yards for a touchdown and a 20-0 lead.

Two plays into the next series, Rock Hill fumbled and Vincent scooped up the ball and returned it 20 yards for the touchdown. Layne Mehl caught the conversion pass and it was 28-0.

Rock Hill (7-4) never got its offense on track in the first half due to its own mistakes but did put together a 14-play drive that ended on a missed 33-yard field goal attempt by Nathan Davenport.

A short St. Clairsville punt gave the ball back to the Redmen at midfield, but a drive to the 16 ended on a 9-yard sack as time ran out.

St. Clairsville had two more quick scores in the third quarter, one aided by another Rock Hill fumble. For the game, the Redmen lost four of five fumbles.

It took three plays and a 15-yard penalty on the Redmen to give the Red Devils their first score of the second half. Vincent carried all three times including the final 8 yards of the 55-yard drive and it was 35-0.

After the kickoff, the Redmen gained one yard on two plays and a bad snap on third down led to a fumble recovery by the Red Devils’ Layne Mehl at the 24.

Five plays later John Earliwine scored on a 1-yard plunge and the lead was 42-0.

St. Clairsville inserted its second team offense on its next series and drove to the Rock Hill 23, but the Redmen held on downs and began their first scoring drive.

On the strength of a 42-yard Drew Kuehne to Davenport pass to the Red Devils’ 9, Andy Smith ran the final 2 yards for the score and it was 42-7.

Rock Hill took a page out of St. Clairsville’s book later in the quarter with a quick 88-yard, 6-play drive that culminated on a 29-yard blast by Smith with 4:06 to play.

St. Clairsville got the final score of the game on a 21-yard run by Tyler Shanks with just 24 seconds to play.

Curtis had 102 yards and Vincent 101, both on eight carries. The Red Devils had 414 total yards including 365 on the ground.

Rock Hill finished with 317 total yards. Pierson ended his career with 110 yards on 20 carries. Kuehne completed 6-of-10 passes for 133 yards and an interception.
