PEDRO — What did them good, did them in.

All season long, the Rock Hill Redmen kept their mistakes to a minimum and didn’t beat themselves.

But the Redmen lost four fumbles and suffered an interception in last Saturday’s 49-13 Region 15 Division IV semifinals playoff game against St. Claisville.

Besides the playoff loss, the Redmen fell 20-14 to South Point in the final regular season game. In that loss, Rock Hill had a bad snap on a punt that led to a South Point touchdown and a fumble that paved the way for a second score.

“The last two games we made mistakes and they hurt us,” Redmen coach Todd Knipp said.

Although the playoff game against St. Clairsville ended in a lopsided score, Knipp said the Redmen had more to do with the outcome than the Red Devils.

“Because of our ability to shoot ourselves in the football, we have no feet left. I’ve been in games when we’ve been beat and physically dominated. We moved the ball and did things right and then we’d turn the ball over,” said Knipp.

Rock Hill finished the season 7-4 and one game behind Coal Grove and South Point in the Ohio Valley Conference race.

The playoff berth was the fourth for the Redmen and second in Knipp’s four-year tenure as head coach.

“We had a pretty good season, I just wished it had ended better,” said Knipp. “We lose a lot of good players. We’ll have a lot of holes to fill next year.”
