Front Porch Studios, a group of electronic media students from Ohio University Southern, have entered Apple’s Insomnia Film Festival with their short film titled “Longevity.”

More than 3,000 high school and college students entered the contest and 1,914 submitted films.

Sean Daniel, a member of Front Port Studios, said his group hopes to be one of the top 25 who will go on to celebrity judging.

The top 25 entries will be posted on Nov. 20.

Making a film is not something that is foreign to this crew, which also includes John Daniels and Jay Colegrove.

However, having to create the film in one day was somewhat of a daunting task.

The students were sent an e-mail listing the props, dialogue, and elements to use in their short production.

They had only 24 hours to visualize, create, and edit the final film to be submitted.

The three all starred in the light-hearted film about an older gentleman who receives a visit from the devil and an angel as he is contemplating suicide. As with his other productions, Daniel decided to put a comedic spin on this film.

“I try to make as many people relate to the same situations as I can,” Daniel said. “ I’m not out to change the world, but I want to make people laugh.”

Daniel has produced other short films such as “Flight to Freedom,” an international production, that won “Best Overall Film” in the 48 Hour Film Project in Cincinnati 2006.

Daniel is a senior and a non-traditional student at OU Southern. He is quick to pay tribute to OU Southern and the electronic media department for his success.

“They have given me one of the best educations that is hands-on and face to face, the way I learn,” he said. “They also gave me the equipment I need to succeed.

If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I’m at.”

Contest winners will receive a Mac Book Pro, Apple editing software, and have their photos displayed on the Apple Student Gallery website.
