LUCASVILLE — If home is anything like life on the road, accommodations won’t mean anything to the South Point Pointers this season.

South Point opened the basketball season on the road and had little trouble adjusting as the Pointers belted the Lucasville Valley Indians 83-56 Saturday night.

“We’re pretty happy to start with a win and on the road. Hopefully, we’ll get better as we go,” said Pointers coach Gary Norris.

Todd Mayo had a strong all-around game with a game-high 29 points to go with six steals and four blocked shots.

Corey Taylor also came up big with 25 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots. Beau Weed added 14 points, five assists and four steals while Kyle Hughes grabbed eight rebounds.

Taylor had 12 points in the first quarter as South Point took a 21-13 lead. But Lucasville came back in the second quarter to take a 35-34 lead at the break.

But Mayo erupted for 14 points in the third quarter and the defense held Valley to only 4 points and the Pointers build a comfortable 58-39 lead.

Weed and Taylor scored 8 points each in the fourth quarter as South Point continued to pull away.

“The first half we didn’t play very well. The second half we played pretty good,” said Norris.

Cam Arbaugh scored 16 points and Zach Bukieweicz 13 to lead Lucasville Valley.

The Pointers host Green on Dec. 3.
