It takes a thief.

South Point senior Beau Weed spent his career stealing passes from opposing teams. Instead of being punished, Weed was rewarded by being named to the Associated Press Division IV first team defense.

Weed was one of eight local players earning All-Ohio honors. Named to the All-Ohio special mention list were Ironton senior lineman Wes Runyon and wide receiver Marc Carter, Rock Hill senior running back Wes Pierson and lineman Chris Moore, South Point senior defensive lineman Cory Garred, and Fairland junior wide receiver Michael Lamb and quarterback Cole Hatfield.

Weed, a 6-foot-2, 160-pounder, was first team all-district. He had 17 career interceptions including seven this past season. He also played quarterback after playing wide receiver the previous season.

The 5-11, 240-pound Runyon played guard and linebacker. Carter (5-7, 140) had 32 receptions for 445 yards and four touchdowns. He also intercepted two passes.

Garred racked up 70 tackles and had seven quarterback sacks.

Moore was a four-year started on both defense and offense. Pierson ran for more than 1,000 yards and scored 19 touchdowns.

Lamb caught 46 passes for 757 yards and 10 touchdowns. Hatfield was 175 of 236 for 2,358yards and 21 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
