NEW BOSTON — When in Rome, do as the Romans, unless you’re playing basketball.

St. Joseph coach Kevin Sheridan said the Flyers got caught up doing what New Boston wanted to do and as a result dropped an 85-74 decision to the Tigers Tuesday.

“We played at their pace the whole game and any time you do that on somebody else’s floor that usually going to hurt you,” said Sheridan.

Caleb Blackburn had a career game as he scored 29 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Chad Harvey scored 18 points, David Crossan added 12 points, and Alex Brown racked up a career-high 15 rebounds.

“Caleb had a huge game and Alex did what we asked. He defended and rebounded,” said Sheridan.

“We rebounded pretty well but our team defense just wasn’t very good tonight. If you give up 85 points you aren’t going to beat anybody.”

Josh Howell scored 33 points as New Boston stayed unbeaten in three games. Logan Copley had 18 points and Michael Salisbury added 13.

Harvey and Blackburn scored 7 points each in the first quarter and the Flyers trailed just 20-19.

Blackburn scored 12 points in the second quarter as the Flyers tied the game at 41-41. However, Blackburn got in foul trouble and Harvey sat out the quarter with foul trouble.

New Boston’s Josh Howell hit two straight shots from behind the arc to start the second half and make it 47-41.

Harvey scored 4 points but New Boston pulled away to a 68-54 lead as Howell scored 18 points.

Blackburn had 8 points, Harvey 7 and Crossan 5 in the fourth quarter, but New Boston still outscored the Flyers 27-20.
