SOUTH POINT — There’s a lesson to be learned in wins as well as losses.

The young South Point Lady Pointers learned their lesson during a win as they topped the Fairland Lady Dragons 64-53 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We didn’t take care of the ball at the end like we should have. We played like we were behind. I guess that’s part of being so young,” said Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams.

“But Fairland played really hard. They didn’t quit.”

South Point (3-2, 2-0 OVC) led by just five points at halftime but by as many as 18 in the second half.

Jalynn Bradburn led the Lady Pointers with a game-high 25 points. Kayla Fletcher scored 16 and Tinesha Taylor had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

“We missed a ton of layups and putbacks. There were times when we had four or five shots and got nothing out of it,” said Adams.

Destinee Spears had 24 points to lead Fairland (2-3, 0-2). MacKenzie Rucker added 10 points.

Spears scored seven points in the first quarter. Fletcher had five points and Bradburn and Taylor scored four each as South Point took a 15-13 lead. Spears had seven of Fairland’s points.

Bradburn got 6 points in the second quarter to offset 4 by Rucker that included a 3-pointer and the Lady Pointers were up 32-27 at the break.

Bradburn scored 10 points as South Point built an 18-point lead in the third quarter. Spears tried to keep it close with 6 points but the spread was 52-37 at the end of the stanza.

Spears sparked a comeback in the fourth quarter with 9 points, but Fletcher and Ashley Goodall each went 2-for-2 at the foul line to preserve the win.
