ASHTON, W.Va. — Maybe they just needed a halftime visit from the Energizer Bunny.

The sluggish St. Joseph Female Flyers picked up the pace in the second half as they beat the Hannan Lady Wildcats 34-20 Thursday.

“I don’t know if we were feeling the effects of playing last night and the long ride, but we played with a lot more energy in the second half,” said Female Flyers coach B.J. Hannon.

“We played a lot better in the second half. The first half we just seemed to drag around. We didn’t play very well.”

The first quarter moved at a crawl as Hannan took a 3-2 lead. The game was tied at 7-7 in the second quarter, but a foul shots by Katie Hacker with one second left in the half gave the Female Flyers a 14-13 lead at the break.

Danielle Blair, Charleigh Haas and Hacker scored four points each to account for all of St. Joseph’s points in the second quarter.

Haas had 4 more points in the third quarter as the lead went to 22-16.

The Female Flyers defense limited Hannan to just three field goals in the second half and Haas had four more points in the fourth quarter as St. Joseph continued to add to its lead.

Haas finished with a game-high 14 points Hacker added nine points.
