Five first place finishes add up.

The South Point Lady Pointers rode five first place finishes to a first place finish overall in the Ironton Invitational Thursday.

South Point finished with 110 points. Coal Grove and Portsmouth Notre Dame tied for second with 94 points, Ironton had 71, Chesapeake 60, and Fairland 35.

The Lady Pointers were led by Kayla Fletcher who won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and was third in the long jump.

Megan Crabtree was first in the long jump (14-11.25) and 300 hurdles. Jalynn Bradburn cleared 4-foot-4 to win the high jump.

Ironton coach Tim Thomas said his team has shown improvement and might have had more success if not for extenuating circumstances.

Ironton was missing senior sprinter Michelle Pancake who was injured. Also, the pole vault was cancelled due to the weather, an event both Cortney and Carie Rister would have been among the top three favorites.

“She could have helped us a lot,” said Ironton coach Tim Thomas. “But we had some good performances. Cinnamon (Fletcher) did well and so did Cortney and Carie and Lorna (Ceaser). We’ll get better.”

Fletcher won the 100-meter hurdles (17.7) and was second in the long jump (14-9.5). Carie Rister was third and Cortney Rister fourth in the 100 meters.

Coal Grove’s Chelsea Delong won the discus (105-11) and Doni Winters claimed the shot put (32-8.5).

The Ironton boys’ meet is at 11 a.m. Saturday.
