Dragons defeat Symmes Valley 11-1

PROCTORVILE — It didn’t matter who was in the Fairland Dragons lineup Tuesday.

Seven different players got hits as Fairland downed the Symmes Valley Vikings 11-1 Tuesday in a five-inning non-league game.

“We played a lot of people and we had a lot of people contribute. We hit the ball well, but our defense hasn’t been as good as it should be,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

While the Dragons banged out 10 hits, they were guilty of five errors.

Fairland went up 2-0 in the first on a singles by Zac Jordan and Zach Matasich, a passed ball, and a two-run single by Robbie Easterling.

The Vikings got their only run in the second inning on a double by Brice Sexton and Kris Tibbs’ base hit.

The Dragons got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Jordan walked and Matasich tripled.

The lead went to 3-1 in the fourth inning on a hit by Jordan, Matasich’s sacrifice bunt, an error, and Ethan Long’s ground out.

Fairland erupted for six runs in the fifth inning to lead

Chris Ward walked, Chad Fisher walked and Jordan all walked to load the bases. Matasich had an RBI single and Easterling walked to force in a run.

Tyler Godby had a two-run double and Daniel Puckett delivered a two-run single.

Adam Berry hit a solo home run leading off the sixth inning for Fairland to create the 10-run mercy rule.

Ethan Long, the second of four Fairland pitchers, got the win.

Fairland (3-0) plays at South Point Wednesday in a league game.

Symmes Valley (2-1) travels to South Point on Thursday for a non-conference game.
