SOUTH PONT — That clicking sound coach Steve Baise is hearing is the ignition switch.

The South Point Lady Pointers got their offense clicking with 17 hits en route to an 11-7 win over the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets Tuesday.

“We’re starting to click. All the girls hit. We got our bats going. We came out and stroked the ball. I think we surprised them,” said Baise.

Besides the offense, Hannah Huron pitched four strong innings of relief to get the win. She struck out six and did not allow a hit or a walk.

Wellston (11-2) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Amber Lambert walked and Breanna Hall drilled a two-run homer to centerfield.

South Point answered with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.

With one out, Emily Mannon singled, moved up on a passed ball and Huron singled. Huron stole second and Tausha Collins singled in a run.

Ashley Kleinman lined a base hit to drive in a run and put runners on the corners. Kleinman stole second and Sashe Burcham singled in a run. Caymie Collier walked and Amy Lien singled in a run.

Ericka Leighty followed with a triple to empty the bases.

The Lady Rockets scored three runs in the second inning to get within 7-5.

Holly Waldron singled, moved up on a passed ball, took third on Paige Patterson’s base hit, and scored on a passed ball. Ciara Thompson’s ground out scored a run.

Wellston tied the game in the third inning.

With one out, Amber King and Waldron singled, moved up on a passed ball, and Patterson reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases.

Chelsey Folden and Thompson each hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in runs.

The Lady Pointers scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-7 lead.

Collier reached on an error, Lien singled, and Leighty doubled home both runners. Leighty stole third and Mannon hit a sacrifice fly.

South Point added a run in the sixth when Ashley Smith, Burcham and Collier all singled.

South Point (5-4) hosts Rock Hill Wednesday.
