COLUMBUS — Johnathon Schweickart must like visiting Columbus. After qualifying for the USA Junior National basketball team last month, the Ironton Fighting Tigers senior quarterback will return July 18-19 for the Top Gun Quarterback Challenge at Dublin Scioto High School.
The Top Gun competition is an invitation-only event that features the state’s top quarterbacks. Competitors must meet specific qualifications that include outstanding athletic ability, strong academics, and be of good character.
The mission of the event is to provide a unique, unmatched experience for Ohio’s top quarterbacks that will impact their life both on and off the field.
Players are tested on physical ability, cognitive, speed and mobility, stationary accuracy, on-the-move accuracy, and arm strength by throwing the “deep ball.”
Schweickart, an all-Southeastern Ohio Athletic selection last season, threw for more than 1,000 yards. The Ironton High School senior is the son of Christy Schweickart and Michael Taylor.
