DONALD DEWITZ

Donald F. Dewitz, 68, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County, Ohio, native was born May 15, 1939, the son of the late Theodore S. and Geraldine Kelley Dewitz.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1957. He retired in 2005 from the City of Ironton with 16 years service and also formerly worked at Allied Chemical and Ironton Iron. He is also a 27-year member of the Ironton Memorial Day Parade committee and a past Parade Commander of the Memorial Day Parade. He helped for several years with the Ironton Little League and is a lifetime resident of this area. He is also a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Ironton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet M. Willis Dewitz, who passed away March 24, 2005.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Steve Collins of Dillon, Colo.; a son and daughter-in-law, Loren and Brandie Dewitz of Ironton; one grandson, Forrest Dewitz; one brother and sister-in-law, Keith A. and Joyce Dewitz of Orrville; one sister, Janie Moore of Wellston; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Myers officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Military graveside rites will be by VFW Post 8850 Ironton. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, Ky. 41110.
