Two fires in as many days in the eastern part of the county have been ruled arson by the state fire marshal’s office.

On Tuesday night, a fire in an unoccupied single-family house on Township Road 1378, Chesapeake, is being classified as arson, according to the state fire marshal’s office. There were no injuries reported to the fire marshal, according to a release from Shane Cartmill, public information officer for the office.

This is an ongoing investigation and the fire marshal is not releasing details about how and where the fire started, Cartmill said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the state fire marshal’s office.

On Sunday a fire started in the rear living room area of a two-story house at 84 County Road 17 in South Point. There were no injuries reported. After conducting an on-scene investigation, the fire marshal’s office ruled that the fire had been deliberately set.

Now investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the fire or saw something or someone they deem unusual to contact the Columbus office. A Blue Ribbon Arson reward of up to $5,000 is being offered to anyone with information that will lead to the identification of those responsible for the fire. Anyone with such information on these fires can call the fire marshal’s office at 800-589-2728.
