Elder knocks off Pickerington 24-10

Mark Miller threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Josh Jones to spur Cincinnati Elder past Pickerington Central 24-10 Saturday night in a Division I semifinal.

Pickerington Central jumped out to a 10-0 second quarter lead on Jamie Wood’s five-yard TD run. Elder’s Nick Gramke had a 1-yard TD run just before halftime and Ben Coffaro scored on a 22-yard run in the third quarter.

Miller’s long pass to Jones came just before the end of the third, making it 21-10.

Pickerington Central didn’t cross midfield in the second half until the final three minutes. Elder stopped the last two Tiger drives with interceptions.

Elder (13-1) will face Cleveland St. Ignatius (13-1) in next Saturday’s championship.

DIVISION III

Aurora 20,

Big Walnut 14

ASHLAND (AP) — Steven Yung rushed for a three-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that made the difference in Aurora’s 20-14 win over Sunbury Big Walnut Saturday night in a Division III semifinal game.

Yung’s score made it 20-7. John Cannell followed up with a 29-yard TD pass to Eugene Cannaday for Big Walnut (11-3), but the Eagles couldn’t score again.

Brendan Gallagher scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter for Aurora (12-2), which will face Columbus Eastmoor in next week’s championship.

Cannaday also scored in the third quarter on a seven-yard run for Big Walnut.

DIVISION V

Youngs. Ursuline 35,

Balt. Liberty Union 6

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (AP) — Paul Kempe threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Dale Peterman on the second play of the second half to spark Youngstown Ursuline’s 35-6 win over Baltimore Liberty Union Saturday night in a Division V semifinal.

A 54-yard run by Akise Teague set up Ursuline’s second touchdown of the third quarter, and Dawalyn Harper’s 1-yard TD run several plays later made it 28-0.

Allen Jones also had a big play for Ursuline (14-0) — a 43-yard touchdown run that made it 35-6 with 5:33 left in the game.

Dustin Love’s 3-yard TD run earlier in the fourth was the lone score for Baltimore Liberty Union (12-2).

Ursuline, which advanced to the Division V final for the second straight year, will play Liberty-Benton next week.

Liberty-Benton 35,

Marion Local 0

FINDLAY (AP) — Quarterback Aaron Craft rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns to lead Liberty-Benton past two-time defending state champion Marion Local 35-0 on Saturday in a Division V semifinal.

Liberty-Benton got its 10th shutout of the season and held Marion Local to just 126 yards of offense in earning its first state final appearance.

Craft scored on TD runs of 25, six and 11 yards and completed eight of 18 passes for 137 yards. The Eagles also got a 75-yard interception return from Nate Aydt and field goals of 29 and 42 yards by Justin Hyde.
