Damien W. “Pooch” Carey, 67, of Coal Grove, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born July 27, 1941 in Coal Grove, a son of the late Virginia Hurst Carey. He was retired from Ironton Iron, Inc., and was a former co-owner of the Coal Grove Freezette. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Carey; five brothers, James, Ernest, Charles, Gerald and Francis Carey and a sister, Mary Carey.
He is survived by three daughters, Jenni, Jodi and Mary Beth Carey, all of Coal Grove; two grandsons, Travis William Carey and Trevor Lee Carey, both of Coal Grove; a granddaughter, Cassity Blum, of Coal Grove; a sister, Patty Hall, of Ashland, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW 8850. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home with a Christian wake service at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, Ky.
