A man and woman from Proctorville are in the Lawrence County Jail in connection with the robbery of a taxicab driver earlier this month.

Tuesday night, Christopher D. Colburn, 24, and Brandy D. Davis, 20, both of 7965 County Road 107, Lot 13 B, Proctorville, were arrested by Detectives Andy Sisler and Aaron Bollinger and sheriff’s deputies. Earlier in the day, the detectives with assistance from the West Virginia State Police and the Huntington, W.Va., city police arrested William Hale, 24, of Spring Branch Road. Currently, he is lodged at the Western Regional Jail under a fugitive from justice warrant.

In the early morning hours of Dec. 3, Walter “Corky” Asbury of Huntington, was stabbed in the neck and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money as he was in the taxicab he drove. Asbury had stopped at an Exxon gasoline station on County Road 107 in Proctorville.

After the incident, the sheriff’s office distributed to the media the tape from a video surveillance camera that was in the cab.

“The evening of Dec. 8, a call came in identifying the person as William Hale,” Bollinger said.

Tuesday authorities located a trailer in Proctorville where they had reason to believe Hale would be. He was not there, but the investigation there led to the detectives to having probable cause for an arrest warrant for Hale.

They then went to his parents’ home on Spring Branch Road, where he lived. He was not there. But additional information led them to an apartment in Huntington, where they found Hale, a passenger in his mother’s vehicle, leaving the vicinity. He was then arrested.

Both Colburn and Davis are charged with complicity to aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence. Following his extradition to Lawrence County, Hale will face charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and tampering with evidence, Bollinger said.
