WILLOW WOOD — As the game grew older, so did the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.
Symmes Valley coach Lisa Bryant said her team took a big step Saturday as they rallied past the Western Lady Indians 46-43 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
“Our kids have really showed maturity this season and today they really grew up,” said Bryant.
“They never got rattled when they were down by five in the third and fought back the entire fourth quarter.”
Erica Corn had a big game with 15 points, five assists and three rebounds while Hailey Pelletier grabbed 13 rebounds to go with eight points as the Lady Vikings improved to 2-2 and 2-1 in the SOC.
“Erica Corn had her best offensive game of the season and Pelletier hit the boards all day long,” said Bryant.
“Nikki Nance and Brooke Skinner both came off the bench and played a great all-around game. We are improving game by game.”
Corn scored eight points in the first quarter as the Vikings took a 14-12 lead.
Symmes Valley led 23-22 at the break, but Western took as much as a five-point lead in the third quarter before settling on a 40-36 lead.
The Lady Vikings held Western to just three points in the fourth quarter. Skinner made four foul shots in the comeback and Chelsea Wall made two free throws with 14 seconds left to put the lead at three points.
Samantha Darling led Western with 21 points.
