“We played really well offensively early on. Our defense was good as well. They scored 20 points in the fourth quarter against our reserves,” said Lady Panthers coach Sammy Gue. “And we did a pretty good job on the glass.”

Sarah Mayo outscored OVC in the first quarter with eight points as Chesapeake took a 21-7 lead.

Amanda Ruffner poured in 11 in second quarter as the Lady Panthers scored 28 points to build a 49-16 halftime cushion.

Ruffner finished with a game-high 24 points. Mayo scored 18 points while Kimmie Bennett added 12 for Chesapeake (5-1).

“Amanda really stepped up and showed some improvement and showed a lot of confidence. She’s getting back to as close to normal as possible,” said Gue.

“Sarah took care of the ball well and Heffner and Chapman played well defensively again.”

Linda Miller had 20 points and Andrea Vanmeter 17 to pace Ohio Valley Christian.

Chesapeake plays at Coal Grove in a key Ohio Valley Conference game Thursday.

“It’ll be a great match-up in a tough environment,” said Gue.
