David M. Whitehead, 52, loving brother, uncle and friend to all in the neighborhood, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at home, surrounded by the love of all who knew him. David was the son of the late Homer M. Whitehead and Anna Crabtree Whitehead, born in Ironton July 16, 1956.
David was a member of the Community of Christ. He was a graduate of Ironton High School with the Class of 1974 and received a B.S. degree from Ohio University in industrial and systems engineering in 1995.
David’s career started in Ironton as a co-op student at the Dayton Malleable Foundry and led him to work in construction in many states. He started as a laborer, then millwright and later was a project site superintendent when working for Cianbro Co. Whitehead Consulting Inc., was his business until he became ill.
David “Boogsie” was an avid fan and supporter of the Ironton School System in both academics and sports. The Ohio State Buckeyes were his favorite college football team and became most special when his nephew joined the team in 2006. He enjoyed hunting, horse racing and sharing his knowledge of computers.
David is survived by two brothers and two sisters and their families. In Ironton, Michael and Sharon Whitehead, Carolyn and Bob Waddle and Mary and Bobby Williams. In Arkansas, John Whitehead. He is also survived by four nieces and one nephew, Dr. Nichelle Whitehead, Dr. Kristin Whitehead, Andrea Hixon, Christine Williams and Marcus Williams. He especially treasured seven great nephews, Maxwell and Miles Stephan, Avery and Beck Hixon, Sascha and Elijah Posch and Zayne Williams. He will also be missed by four aunts and several cousins.
There will be no visitation or service. A celebration of David’s life will be scheduled later and family and friends will be notified.
