The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a person of interest in connection with Monday night’s triple homicide in Franklin Furnace.

Paul Balmer, 47, is considered a suspect in the murders, according to Donya McClurg, dispatcher with the sheriff’s office.

Just before 7 p.m. Monday detectives found in a trailer at 287-C Snook Road, Franklin Furnace, the bodies of Edward D. Mollett, 46, his wife, Juanita F. Mollett, 43, and their daughter, Christina J. Mollett, 20. The husband and wife lived at the trailer; their daughter’s address was 1602-A Junior Furnace Road.

Witnessing the shooting was the couple’s 6-year-old grandson, who ran to the house of a neighbor for assistance, according to a release from Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini. The child was the nephew of Christina Mollett.

Kara M. Garvin, 29, Back Road, turned herself in to sheriff’s detectives at 11:30 p.m. accompanied by local attorney Rick Nash. She now faces three counts of aggravated murder.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the trailer and found the two female victims in the living room and the man in the kitchen. Their bodies were sent to the Montgomery County morgue for autopsies.

The victims and suspect appear to have known each other, Donini’s release states. The sheriff called the incident “a crime of opportunity.”

Garvin was arraigned early Tuesday morning in Portsmouth Municipal Court via video arraignment. She is being held on a $1.5 million bond or a half-million dollars for each charge. She will face a preliminary hearing Friday at 11 a.m. in Portsmouth Municipal Court.

Balmer is driving a gold Toyota Rav 4, with black primer on the front fender, according to the dispatcher.

All the vehicle windows have a dark tint. There is possibly a spare tire on the back and luggage rack on the top.
