A preliminary hearing for Kara Garvin, the Franklin Furnace woman charged in last week’s triple homicide, has been rescheduled.

The hearing will now be Friday, Jan. 2 at 9:30 a.m. in Portsmouth Municipal Court. Garvin faces three counts of aggravated murder after the bodies of Edward Mollett, 46, Juanita Mollett, 43, and their 20-year-old daughter, Christina Mollett, were found in the couple’s trailer on Snook Road.

All three were victims of gunshot wounds and were found at approximately 6:48 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 by Scioto County sheriff’s deputies.

Garvin, 29, of Back Road, Franklin Furnace, turned herself in about four hours later, accompanied by attorney Rick Nash. She is currently lodged in the Scioto County Jail on a million and a half-dollar bond.

Scioto authorities are also looking for Paul J. Balmer, 46, of 3407 Back Road, Franklin Furnace.

Balmer is a white male, 6-foot-1, 240 pounds with blue eyes, blond shoulder-length hair with a mustache and a goatee beard, according to a press release from Sheriff Marty Donini. There is a fourth degree felony warrant for Balmer charging him with trafficking in drugs pertaining to an unrelated case, the sheriff said.

Detectives are also looking for a gold Toyota RAV4 that they believe Garvin was driving at one time. It bears Ohio registration DVA4420 with a luggage rack on the top, black primer on a front fender, all dark tinted windows and a possible spare time on the rear.

Anyone with any information on this case, including Balmer and the vehicle, are asked to contact Detective Spencer with the Scioto County Sheriff’s office at (740) 351-1099 or (740) 354-7566.
