If the Chesapeake Panthers like to set the pace, they must have been in love on Saturday night.

The Panthers got the game going at their pace as they blitzed the River Valley Raiders in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We try to get the game in a tempo that is positive for us. It was an up and down game,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis.

Getting up and down in rapid fashion for the Panthers were Kyle Webb and Nathan Copley who scored 25 points each. Peter Hintz had 15 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals. Trent Saunders added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Copley had eight rebounds while Matt Angle handed out five assists.

“We played well offensively and we had some balance. We gave up too many points. That was as physical of a game as we’ve been in all year,” said Davis.

River Valley’s Clayton Curnutte led all scorers with 31 points. Kody Johnson added 11.

The game began with an explosion as Copley scored 12 points and Chesapeake took a 23-20 lead.

The Panthers’ defense did a better job in the second quarter as they outscored the Raiders 20-11 to take a 43-31 halftime lead.

Webb pumped in 11points in the third quarter as Chesapeake erupted for 27 points to open up a 70-49 cushion.

Chesapeake is now 4-1 on the season and is 2-0 in the OVC.
