Lady Vikings shock SOC leader New Boston, 41-39

When the shooting goes good, things can go great for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

The shooting went well Monday and the Lady Vikings parlayed the offense with a good defense to upset the New Boston Lady Tigers 41-39 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Symmes Valley (4-5, 4-3) shot 41 percent from the field for the game including 9 of 18 in the second half. The Lady Vikings performance dealt New Boston its first SOC loss of the season.

“Our offense was executing well all night long and we finally had a good shooting night and it paid off for us,” said Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant.

“We played a great defensive game tonight. Our game plan was to change up our defenses and contest shots from the perimeter and we did both very well.”

Brooke Skinner had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals to lead the Lady Vikings. Jessie Morris had eight points, four rebounds, five steals and three assists, Haily Pelletier added six points with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots, and Ada Humphrey got eight pints and six rebounds.

The Lady Vikings’ defense held New Boston’s leading scorer Kayla Wiley to just 12 points. Missy Buckley led the Lady Tigers (7-3, 7-1) with 17 points.

New Boston took a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, but the Lady Vikings came back to go up 17-14 at the half.

The lead was 26-24 after three quarters and New Boston got within one points with a minute to play on a 3-pointer by Buckley, but Morris scored four points in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Vikings hold on for the thrilling win.
