Lady ‘Cats knock off Eastern

Dale Royse is the Green Lady Bobcats basketball coach, but sometimes he thinks he’s coaching a different team every night.

Royse was coaching a good Green team on Thursday as the Lady Bobcats rolled past the Eastern Lady Eagles 58-40 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“The girls were like a different team. This is the way they’re capable of playing. We just have to be consistent,” said Royse.

Adrianne Blankenship played a little different for Green. Blankenship usually plays well, but she turned in an outstanding effort with 31 points, 20 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Ashlee Runyon added 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Green (6-4, 5-2).

The game was tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Blankenship scored seven points in the second quarter as Green opened up a 26-17 halftime lead.

The Lady Bobcats outscored Eastern 15-8 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 41-25.

“We played the same defense, but things just clicked for us. I can’t really explain it,” said Royse.

Blankenship had 12 of Green’s 17 points in the fourth quarter to end any Eastern comeback hopes.

Green hosts Sciotoville East on Monday.
