SYBENE — Tire tracks in new-fallen snow led local authorities from a Sybene business that was broken into straight to a collection of stolen goods and a suspect.

Christopher L. Morrison, 49, who lists his address as 96 Private Drive 63, Coal Grove, is in the Lawrence County Jail charged with breaking and entering. He is expected to appear today in Lawrence County Municipal Court for arraignment.

Just after 5 a.m. Thursday, a caller told Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies the BP on Charley Creek Road near U.S. 52 had been broken into and that the suspect had gotten into a dark vehicle and had driven away from the scene on County Road 1 toward Chesapeake.

“The citizen who called had tried to follow in their vehicle and described losing the vehicle around the area of Tumble World and the Traveler’s Motel,” Lawrence County Sheriff’s Detective Aaron Bollinger said.

“Due to the snow there were fresh tire tracks from the vehicle pulling into a residence at 22 Township Road 1042 and footprints from the vehicle, a black Oldsmobile, to the house. The vehicle was stolen from Ironton.”

Cigarettes and other items reportedly taken from the gasoline station were found in the vehicle, Bollinger said.
