It was a rollercoaster for the St. Joseph Flyers. Fortunately the ride at the end was pretty smooth.

In an up-and-down performance, the Flyers beat the Green Bobcats 67-46 Saturday night.

“We played well early, then we kind of relaxed after we had the big lead. But we regrouped and righted the ship and played well down the stretch,” said Flyers coach Kevin Sheridan.

Chad Harvey scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Flyers. Caleb Blackburn just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Payton Blair handed out five assists and Joey Basedow had three steals for the St. Joseph (5-5).

“Everyone played well,” said Sheridan. “Caleb did a nice job battling inside and (George) McCown gave us a boost off the bench.”

Dustin Stapleton led Green with 12 points, all in the second half. Matt Ratcliff pulled down 17 rebounds while Matt Clarke had four assists and three steals.

Harvey scored nine points in the first quarter and Blackburn five as the Flyers took a 20-6 lead.

Basedow got all six of his points in the second quarter to offset six points by Green’s Patrick Pierce as the Flyers held a 38-20 lead at the break.

Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter and it was 48-30 heading into the fourth quarter. Green got within 12 points on two occasions in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Harvey had nine points and Tanner Riley scored four points including a trifecta as the Flyers began to pull away.
