Kyle Webb is in “The Scoring Zone.”

After getting 32 points on Tuesday, Webb came back to score 29 points Friday as the Chesapeake Panthers beat the Coal Grove Hornets 61-53 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Webb — who scored Chesapeake’s first 26 points against Ironton — scored 18 of the Panthers’ first 22 points as they took a 22-18 halftime lead.

“Kyle worked really hard in the offseason,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis. “When Kyle and Nathan (Copley) get in those modes, they can stroke it.”

Copley scored 15 points for the Panthers who are now 5-2 overall and lead the OVC at 3-0.

“We played okay. We battled and did a better job on the boards. We were consistent all the way through,” said Davis.

Evan Ferguson scored 15 points to lead the Hornets (4-5, 1-2). Devin Monnier scored 12 points and Wayne Sparks added nine.

Webb scored 8-of-10 first quarter points and 10-of-12 in the second quarter.

The Panthers went in front 41-32 after three quarters.

Copley — who scored 11 points in the fourth quarter — hit a 3-pointer after the Hornets got within four points and hit some key free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Monnier had eight points and Ferguson scored six more as the Hornets battled back in hopes of pulling off the upset.

“Kyle Webb carried us in the first half, and then when we had the lead Copley carried us the last three or four minutes,” said Davis.
