Criminal non-support and probation violations were among the matters taken up Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Paul D. Brown II, 41, of Huntington, W.Va., pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor criminal non-support.

Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced him to three years probation and ordered him to pay additional $500 monthly toward his child support arrearage in addition to his regular monthly payments.

According to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, Brown owed approximately $11,217 as of February 2008.

Bowling agreed Brown’s probation could be terminated once his arrearage is cleared. The child support was for one child.

Also Wednesday, James R. Clevenger, 33, of Wheelersburg, admitted he violated the terms of his probation, also known as community controlled sanctions.

Clevenger pleaded guilty in January 2007 to charges of theft and intimidation of a witness. He was sentenced to one year in prison but was granted judicial release in April of that same year and placed on probation.

Authorities said since then, he has tested positive for drug use. Bowling sentenced him to five months in prison.
