Lady Raiders edge Chesapeake

There’s a new kid on the block.
While South Point was beating Coal Grove for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference, the River Valley Lady Raiders beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 49-46 Thursday to move into a tie for first place.
River Valley is 8-3 overall but 3-0 in the OVC. Chesapeake fell to 6-5 and probably fell out of title contention at 1-3.
Chesapeake led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter and 30-21 at the half.
The lead was as many as 12 points in the third quarter when River Valley began to catch fire.
The Lady Raiders trailed 41-33 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Lady Panthers 16-5 in the fourth quarter.
Kimmie Bennett and Sarah Mayo scored 13 points each to pace Chesapeake.
Brooke Marcum had a game-high 18 points for River Valley.

Fairland 40, Rock Hill 26
PEDRO — Everyone did a little to make a lot of good things happen for the Fairland Lady Dragons.
Eight players scored — none in double figures — as the Lady Dragons beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 40-26 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Shelby Fuller had eight points and seven rebounds, Kennon Clarkson eight points and four rebounds, and Mackenzie Rucker had five points, four rebounds and three assists to lead the balance Lady Dragons.
Hannah Long had nine points and five rebounds for Rock Hill. Brittany Thompson added seven points and six rebounds while Chelsea Harper also had seven points.
Fairland (5-5, 1-3) led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter and held Rock Hill scoreless in the second quarter to take a 15-6 halftime lead.
The Lady Dragons put the game away in the third quarter as they outscored Rock Hill 15-4.
