Lady Hornets down Vinton County

The Coal Grove Lady Hornets needed some time in the recovery room. It turned out to be a gym against the Vinton County Lady Vikings.

Coming off a disappointing loss at South Point on Thursday, the Lady Hornets rebounded with a 55-49 win over Vinton County on Saturday.

“That was a nice bounce-back game,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Nick Miller. “I was happy that we shared the ball and we were more patient.”

Jordyn Cox shared her ball with the basket as she scored 30 points including four 3-pointers. Chelsea Delong had 13 points as Coal Grove improved to 8-3.

Tori Dixon dropped in 23 points as she made six 3-point goals.

Dixon hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and Cox scored nine for Coal Grove and the game was 11-11.

The two matched each other in the second quarter. Each had 11 points and both made three 3-pointers as Coal Grove took a 30-29 halftime lead.

But in the third quarter, Cox scored five and Delong four as Coal Grove took a 42-38 lead.

Cox and Delong scored five each in the fourth as the Lady Hornets built a 1112-points lead. Dixon got seven points, but mostof them came came with less than a minute to play.
