CHARLES MELVIN

PORTSMOUTH — Charles “Oak” Edward Melvin, 43, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Gallipolis native was born April 14, 1965, the son of Bernice Colvin Melvin of Ironton and the late Charles Oakey Melvin. He is survived by his wife, Letitia Weaver Melvin, whom he married Dec. 8, 2001.
Mr. Melvin was a 1983 graduate of Dawson Bryant High School and was self-employed. He was a member of the New Hope Church of God in Rush, Ky.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Oakey and Silvia Brace Melvin; and maternal grandparents, James K. and Tressie Gibson Colvin.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by son, Timothy Edward Melvin of Portsmouth; stepdaughter, Caitlin Weaver of Portsmouth; aunts, Louise Nickell of Charleston, S.C., Helen Loewenguth of Akron, and Dorothy Terry and Doris Robinson both of Ironton, Ruth Colvin of Franklin Furnace; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home, with Pastor Ed Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Melvin Cemetery.
