After talking things over, the South Point Pointers and coach Dave Adams came to an agreement.

Play better.

South Point stepped up its defense in the second half and pulled away from the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 64-43 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We didn’t play well defensively the first half. They out-hustled us and we didn’t have any intensity. We had a pretty good talk about it at halftime,” said Adams.

“We were a little sluggish at first, but halfway through the third quarter we kicked it in and picked it up defensively.”

In the second half, Chesapeake managed only 13 total shots from the field and a mere four attempts in the third quarter.

Tinesha Taylor came up with a big game for the Lady Pointers with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Kayla Fletcher and Jalynn Bradburn scored 16 points each as South Point (16-1) moved closer to the league title with an 8-0 record.

“Tinesha had a big night. It seems like we have someone who comes up every night and has a big game,” said Adams.

Chesapeake (9-7, 2-4) was led by Kimmie Bennett and Amanda Ruffner with 13 points each while Sarah Mayo had 11.

Taylor and Bradburn scored six each as South Point took an 18-13 first quarter lead. Bennett scored five including a 3-pointer.

In the second quarter, Fletcher knocked down a pair of 3-pointers as she scored eight points and the Pointers held a 33-25 advantage at the half.

Chesapeake cut the deficit to 33-28 to begin the second half, but the Lady Pointers went on a 16-0 run and opened up a 51-34 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Taylor and Bradburn combined for 13 of South Point’s 18 points in the quarter.
