Maybe Chad Harvey should take some time off before every game.

Because of the snowy weather, the St. Joseph Flyers haven’t played in 18 days. But Chad Harvey showed little rust as he scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Flyers past the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders 72-48 Tuesday.

Harvey also had six rebounds and four steals to go with his scoring total.

“You could tell we hadn’t played in two and a half weeks. It was pretty sloppy the first half,” said Flyers’ coach Kevin Sheridan.

“Chad started a little slow, too, but he got in a zone and they didn’t have anyone who could stop him. When we saw he was hot, we made sure we got the ball to him.”

Harvey scored six points in the first quarter as St. Joseph struggled to a 10-8 lead.

Harvey came back to get 13 points in the second quarter as the Flyers pulled away to a 27-16 halftime lead.

In third quarter, Harvey scored 12 more points as the Flyers opened up a 50-25 lead.

Harvey got nine points early in the fourth quarter as the lead continued to grow and then Sheridan emptied his bench.

Cody Blackburn hit a pair of 3-pointers off the bench in the fourth quarter to pace the backups.

“The second half we really got after it and created some turnovers,” said Sheridan.

The Flyers (6-8) had 31 rebounds with Joseph Unger grabbing nine. Payton Blair had seven assists and six steals.
