Ironton City Council will likely meet in special session Thursday to appoint two new members to the city’s Civil Service Board and hire a part-time secretary for that entity.
Board members Joann McCown and Nick McMahon, both long-time members of the CSC, resigned Friday, as did secretary Pat Lambert. This leaves one remaining board member, Dick Rice, who is ill.
There is some public interest in the positions.
Council president Bob Cleary said already several people have approached members of council and Mayor Rich Blankenship about possibly filling those empty positions. Thursday’s meeting will focus on selecting new appointments from the group of interested people.
“We need to select honest people who want it for the right reasons and don’t have a hidden agenda,” Cleary said.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in council chambers on the third floor of the Ironton City Center.
The resignations came one day after council held off re-appointing McCown to a new three-year term on the board.
McCown said in her letter of resignation she was discouraged by interference in the duties of the CSC; she did not elaborate about that statement.
McMahon said he resigned because he has been on the board quite a long time and needed a break.
