As Ringo Starr and the Beatles once sang, “I get by with a little help from my friends.”

Kris Tibbs usually carries the scoring load for the Symmes Valley Vikings, but his teammates picked up the scoring on Friday in a 65-51 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans.

Tibbs led the Vikings with 22 points, but Luke Taylor scored 16 points and Josh Craft 11 as eight different players scored.

“We’re getting some other kids who are stepping up and scoring so Tibbs doesn’t feel like he has to do it all,” said Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.

Tibbs scored 12 of his points in the first quarter as Symmes Valley roared out of the starting gate and took a 17-2 first quarter lead.

Craft had nine points in the second quarter as the lead went to 35-18 at the half.

Taylor got 11 points in the third quarter as the Vikings held to a 51-38 lead. Aaron Noel scored nine points for the Titans outscored the Vikings 20-16.

But Symmes Valley outscored the Titans 14-13 in the fourth quarter despite eight points by Notre Dame’s Tyler Noel.

Aaron Noel had 18 points and Tyler Noel 17 to lead the Titans.
