RUSSELL, Ky. — Curtis L. “Sonny” DeLong, 80, of Russell, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Fountainhead Nursing Home in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Jan. 21, 1929, the son of the late Thomas Luther and Mildred Ritti Lewis DeLong. He is survived by his wife, Hazel M. Neal DeLong, whom he married June 13, 1961.
Mr. DeLong attended Pedro and Pine Grove Schools and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a former employee of the Dayton Malleable for over 25 years and a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge. He attended the Baptist and Pentecostal Churches.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George E. DeLong; a grandson, Kyle Matthew Watkins; and three sisters, Helen Schuler, Myrtle Oney, and Midge Stevens
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Edward L. DeLong of Russell; three daughters: Shari Watkins of Flatwoods, Ky., Rebecca S. Brown of Summitt, KY and Sarah DeLong of Russell; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Tommy DeLong and Charles DeLong both of Pedro and Ronnie DeLong of Deshler; and two sisters, Marjorie L. Stacey of Pedro and Rita Fackler of Deschler.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home with Brother Jack Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net
