It’s district basketball time and in Southeast Ohio that means a trip to the Convo.

And this time we’re taking the girls, too.

The Ohio University Convocation Center has been the home for the boys’ district and regional basketball tournaments for more than 30 years.

But this season the Southeast District Athletic Board is experimenting with the girls’ district finals being held at the Convo after all games being played at the Waverly downtown arena, an excellent facility in its own right.

Saturday at the Convo will be a combination of girls’ Division III and IV district championship games.

Lucasville Valley at Waterford play at 11 p.m. followed by South Webster and New Boston at 1 p.m.

The Division III games are next with South Point playing Federal Hocking at 5 p.m., Ironton taking on Chillicothe Zane Trace at 7 p.m., and the final game at 9 p.m. that will pair the winners of Monday night’s district semifinal games between Oak Hill and Huntington Ross and North Adams and Minford.

The district winners advance to the regionals at Lancaster.

The boys’ Division III district semifinals will consist of four games on Sunday.

Chesapeake, the top seed in the district, plays Westfall at 2 p.m., Ironton goes against Piketon — ranked 8th in the Associated Press poll — at 3:45, Fairland battles unbeaten and 11th-ranked North Adams at 5:30, and Alexander meets Zane Trace at 7:15.

One ticket is good for all games each day. Tickets are $6 each and schools receive only a percentage of the presale.

The boys’ Division IV sectional finals at Wellston will be Tuesday. Ironton St. Joseph meets No. 4-ranked Oak Hill at 6:15 followed by Symmes Valley and Racine Southern at 8 p.m.
