Community Seder set for April 9

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A community Seder will be held at B’nai Sholom temple April 9 at 6 p.m.

This ritual meal is held to commemorate Passover, or the freeing of the Hebrew slaves by the Egyptian pharaoh.

There will be the traditional reading of the story from Exodus with the Seder meal with its symbols of enslavement and freedom. Then a dinner catered by the women in the congregation will be served.

The event is open to the Tri-State and tickets are $15. Reservations are required and may be made by calling the temple office at (304) 522-2980.

Woman’s Club plans dinner

PROCTORVILLE — The Proctorville Woman’s Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the clubhouse. Devotions will be given by Mary Alice Cooper. The program will be State Project by GFWC of OFWC president, Rose Logston. Hostesses will be Dorothy Castleberry, Peggy White, Jeri Ripley, Lana Thurston and Porcshia Davis. Members are to bring items for the white elephant sale.

The club will also hold its annual Grace Mays Memorial Spaghetti Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 14. The menu will be spaghetti, slaw, bread, dessert and beverage. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Temple set for its reverse raffle

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Annual Historic Preservation Reverse Raffle for B’nai Sholom congregation will be Sunday, March 15.

The proceeds for the event go toward preserving and maintaining the congregation’s historic synagogue, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

There will be no more than 500 tickets sold at $100 each. For an extra $25, a ticket can be insured giving you a second chance to win one of up to 25 cash prizes.

Grand prize of $7,500 will go to the purchaser of the last ticket drawn.

The drawing will be at the Gala at the synagogue, which starts at 1 p.m. Every 25th ticket drawn will be a prizewinner with awards increasing as the drawing nears the final number.

New training bows

available for trail

Pedro — Students at the Ohio University Southern Campus learned a new skill Saturday thanks to the U.S. Forest Service, South Hills Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources-Division of Wildlife.

The 10 new training bows plus arrows were recently purchased by the Wayne National Forest after receiving grant funds from the National Archery in the Schools Program administered by the Shooting Sports Program in the Division of Wildlife.

The Longbow Archery Trail was constructed using grant funds from the NWTF and the U.S. Forest Service. The local NWTF Chapter members volunteered much of their time to help install and maintain the targets on the course. Use of the course is free of charge. It is open during daylight hours. ASHLAND, Ky. — The final installment in the popular Disney movie series “High School Musical,” will be shown at the Main Branch of Boyd County Public Library on Sunday, March 15.

Join Troy and Gabriella and all the other East High Wildcats in “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” which starts at 2 p.m. The Main Branch is located at 1740 Central Ave.

Other upcoming movies at Boyd County Public Library include: “Twilight” on March 22; “Nights in Rodanthe (Girls Night Out) on March 25; and the Spaced Out Double Feature of “Space Chimps” and “Lost in Space” on April 3.

All movies are free. Some refreshments are provided, and additional ones can be purchased for a small cost.

ACT prep courses offered at OUS

Ironton — Ohio University Southern is conducting ACT Prep courses on Saturday, March 21 and Saturday, March 28 in lecture room A in the Collins Center.

The science prep course will be held on Saturday, March 21 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The prep course for math will be held on Saturday, March 21 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The prep course for english, writing and grammar will be held on Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost is $25 per course or $100 for all four courses. Pre-registration is required.
