PROCTORVILLE — It is all a part of giving back to the community. That was the reason businessman and Proctorville resident Lake Polan III cited for a recent contribution by his company to the proposed Children’s Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Recently Allied Realty Co., a real estate and logistics company headquartered in Huntington, donated $20,000 to Cabell. The gift helped fund a GE Healthcare OmniBed for the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

Polan, who is quick to say the contribution comes from many individuals not just himself, calls the work for children at Cabell exciting.

“This really tugs at the heart strings,” he said. “You go up and walk through that neonatal ICU, it is unbelievable the things they do.”

Fund-raising is under way for creating a Children’s Hospital within the walls of Cabell. Plans are to renovate the fifth floor of the neo natal ICU to turn it into an extensive resource for children’s health care that is all child friendly.

The OmniBed is used to control the environment for premature babies and each bed has a $40,000 price tag.

Recently, the company also gave $100,000 to the Marshall Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (MIIR) for its Bucks for Brains program.

Allied Realty was founded in 1922 by Polan’s grandfather, Walter Lewis, primarily as a real estate business. It has expanded to handle warehousing and transportation. It employs 150 in its divisions in Huntington, Kenova, Nitro and Parkersburg, W.Va., and Virginia.
