This team would be a coach’s dream: Five great starters and an outstanding bench.

Nine local girls were named Tuesday to the Associated Press All-Ohio basketball team.

Ironton’s Mercedes Crockrel was a second team selection in Division III, South Point’s Kayla Fletcher was named to the third team, and Coal Grove’s Jordyn Cox was picked Special Mention.

Named to the honorable mention list in Div. III were Ironton’s Lorna Ceaser, South Point’s Jalynn Bradburn and Chesapeake’s Sarah Mayo.

In Div. IV, Green’s Andrianne Blankenship was a special mention selection while St. Joseph’s Michelle Staton and Symmes Valley’s Jessie Morris were honorable mention.

Crockrel was the Southeast District Co-Player of the Year along with Kim Kline of Nelsonville-York.

Crockrel was on the district first team along with Fletcher and Cox.

Green’s Adrianne Blankenship was a first team all-district pick in Division IV.

Ceaser, Bradburn and Mayo were second team all-district in Div. III while Staton and Morris were second team in Div. IV.

Crockrel, a 5-foot-10 senior and four-year starter, averaged 15 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.4 assists. She shot 46 percent from the field and 73 percent from the foul line. She was 39 percent from 3-point range.

The 5-1 Fletcher, a sophomore guard, averaged 13.0 points along with 5.0 assists and steals per game.

Cox, a 5-5 senior guard, averaged 23.1 points a game and shot 32.5 percent from behind the arc. She scored more than 1,000 points in her career and set school records for points in a season (487), a game (37), and season average (23.1).

Ceaser averaged 11.5points and the 5-10 junior grabbed 4.8 rebounds a game. Bradburn, a 5-10 sophomore, scored at a 15.0 clip and had 6.0 rebounds. Mayo, a 5-6 sophomore, averaged 14 points and 3.0 rebounds, assist and steals.

Blankenship, a 5-8 junior, had 16 points and 13 rebounds per game along with 4.0 steals and assists.

The 5-10 Staton, a junior, averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds. Morris, a 5-2 sophomore, averaged 11 points, 5.0 steals and 3.1 assists.
