Ironton Kiwanis sponsors tour of Ohio State facilities

Ohio State Buckeye fans can experience a unique Scarlet and Gray day on Thursday, June 4. The Ironton Area Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a special motor coach excursion to Columbus and multiple Ohio State University athletic venues.

This customized day trip includes guided behind the scene tours of Ohio Stadium and the Schottenstein Center. Additional sites include historic St. John Arena and the Woody Hayes’ football practice facility.

Imagine walking the sidelines where Woody Hayes once roamed, Archie Griffith made history and where the Buckeyes have battled since 1922. Run down the tunnel onto the playing field and experience the thrill felt by so many Buckeyes greats, past present and future.

While at the stadium, fans will experience the Yassenoff Recruit Center filled with pictures of current and former Buckeye greats. Also, fans will travel up to one of the nation’s largest collegiate press boxes, where over 400 media personnel and staff are seated for games.

Fans will see the Huntington Club level and view the field from one of the 81 suites, a premium game day viewing location. The group will stop in and tour the $1.5 million Steinbrenner Band Center, home to the “Best Damn Band in the Land.” Of course, there will be time to explore other areas of the “Horseshoe” for a truly personal Buckeye experience.

Fans will then walk across the street and tour St. John Arena where plenty of Buckeye basketball history has been made. It will include a stroll around the corridors and viewing of Buckeye greats’ memorabilia.

After the visit to St. John it’s a short walk through the ROTC drill field to the lunch stop. Dining will be on pub grub at the Varsity Club, a football game day institution. After lunch there will some free time to shop for Buckeye gear in the stores located around the VC.

Next, fans will board the motor coach and depart for a guided tour of the current home of Ohio State basketball: the Jerome Schottenstein Center. After an in depth tour there will time to browse the Buckeye Hall of Fame and select last-minute souvenirs in the gift shop.

Following the basketball stop it will be time to reboard the coach and depart to the Woody Hayes’ football practice facility. In the lobby fans can see the school’s Heisman trophies and learn about the Buckeye gridiron greats. After that it’s back on the bus and a return home.

The trip includes roundtrip motor coach transportation from Ironton (alternate departure points are available on request, all admission fees and tours, a light breakfast and lunch buffet. The trip costs $70.00 per person is open to the public and appropriate for all ages of Buckeyes fans.
