Ironton tennis falls to Lucasville

LUCASVILLE — It was an opener not to remember.
The Ironton Fighting Tigers tennis team lost all five matches to the Lucasville Valley Indians in the season opening game on Monday.
Ironton’s No. 1 singles player Andrew Hicks lost to Trent Burchett by identical 6-0 scores. Burchett, a four-year starter, is considered one of the top four players in the district.
No. 2 player Steve Sinnott fell 0-6, 1-6 to Alex Davis and No. 3 man Michael Kennedy dropped 4-6, 0-6 decision to Cody Lewis.
In doubles play, Ironton top tandem of Heath Friend and Pat Parnell lost to Kyle McPheters and Adam Buckler 4-6, 3-6, and the No. 2 team of Aaron Christian and Brice Roach fell 3-6, 5-7 to Trevor High and Johnathon Gains.
In an exhibition match, Ironton Kenneth Jenkins lost 3-6, 1-6.
The Fighting Tigers host Portsmouth on Monday.
