JOHN MOOTZ

HILLSBORO — John Raymond Mootz, 78, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at his home. He was born March 31, 1931, in Lawrence County, the son of the late Charles and Laura (McConnell) Mootz. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Rebecca Marie Berwanger and Lee Ryan Berwanger; five brothers and two sisters.
He owned and operated Mootz Grocery in Aid until moving to Highland County in 1966. At that time he became a farmer. He worked for 30 years for John Deere dealers in Hillsboro, including Paul Birch, Suiter Sales and Service, Luschek and Hillsboro Farm and Lawn until his retirement. He was a member of the New Market Baptist Church and Highland County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Willa Jean Kelley Mootz, whom he married on April 28, 1958; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Kathy Mootz of Hillsboro and Robert and Kelly Mootz of Lynchburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rita Mootz of Lynchburg and fiancé, Alan Gregory, Sandra and Jerry Berwangere of Sardinia and Glenna and Gary Crouch of Hillsboro; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Sheila Mootz of Kitts Hill; and a sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Harold Gannon of Ironton.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Thompson Funeral Home, 241 East Main St., in Hillsboro with Dale Mootz and Brent Spears officiating. Burial will follow in Hamer Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
