Burcham’s no-hitter gives Dragons win over Pointers

PROCTORVILLE — Nathan Burcham had all his pitches working. Consequently, the South Point Pointers’ bats didn’t.
Burcham not only mastered his pitches and control, but he also mastered the South Point offense as he fired a no-hitter to lead the Fairland Dragons to a 6-0 Ohio Valley Conference win on Wednesday.
“Nate looked real strong tonight. He hasn’t been stretched out and threw over 100 pitches, but he was strong at the end,” said Fairland coach Roger Snydere.
“If he hadn’t had a no-hitter, I wouldn’t have let him finish. He had his curveball going and when he does he’s a pretty good pitcher.”
Burcham struck out 15 and walked three as he recorded his masterpiece.
Fairland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Cole Hatfield and Robbie Easterling walked and Tyler Godby hit an opposite field triple.
In the fifth inning, Zach Jordan and Hatfield reached on fielder’s choices and Easterling smashed a long three-run homer and it was 5-0.
The Dragons got their final run in the sixth when Javier Rowe singled, Chris Ward walked and a throwing error on Chad Fisher’s ground out.
Kyle Dickess gave up only four hits for the Pointers.
Fairland (3-1, 1-0) visits Chesapeake on Thursday.
