NELSONVILLE — Wayne National Forest (WNF) announces that Ohio Recreational & Rentals, Ltd. (ORR) has been selected to provide commercial outfitter and guide services for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trail riding trips on Wayne’s 121-mile motorized trail system.

On April 13, 2009, the Forest issued ORR a temporary outfitter-guide special use permit. The permit authorizes ORR to begin renting ATVs and guiding riders on the Monday Creek, Pine Creek, and Hanging Rock ATV trail system.

The Federal Land Recreation Enhancement Act of 2006 affords the public an opportunity to apply for a special use permit to conduct business on national forest system lands.

“Motorized trail use is popular on the Forest. ORR will help provide more visitors access to this recreation opportunity, especially those that may not own an ATV. We are looking forward to high quality service and a safe experience for our forest visitors,” said Carleen Yocum, operations group leader for the Wayne National Forest.

The 2009 trail season opens Wednesday, April 15th and ends Tuesday, December 15th. Only ATVs fifty (50”) inches wide or less and off-highway motorcycles (OHMs) are permitted on the Wayne’s designated motorized trail system. All WNF riders must register their ATVs and OHMs at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and purchase a WNF trail permit.

All riders 16 years or older must have a valid state drivers license to purchase a WNF trail permit. Trail permits are not required for riders under 16 years of age. However, they must be accompanied by a licensed operator 18 years or older.
